Safety culture

Mouchel is actively working to ensure all of our business adopts a culture of safety.

Training

In 2010 we appointed a Group Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) training manager to develop its SHE competency framework in line with IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) standards.

This framework includes a new online competency management system for SHE - enabling the Group to gain more accurate and up-to-date information on the specific health and safety competencies of directors, managers and other employees. Going forward, this will enable Mouchel to deliver more cost-effective safety management training to even greater numbers of staff.

Communications

Mouchel's behavioural safety programme was launched in 2009 through briefings, workshops, poster campaigns and publications. It aims to reach every employee in the business and is managed by the Group safety team, working alongside managers and training/internal communications teams across the business. Still in its early stages, the programme continues to raise levels of compliance across the workforce and has already reached around 4,500 employees.

To reinforce Mouchel's health and safety messages, it has developed a new SHE awareness DVD, which is being rolled out to staff at road shows across the UK.
