Diversity and equality
Why this is important to us
Mouchel works with, and provides services to, a diverse range of communities and it is important therefore that its population is diverse in terms of gender, ethnicity and skill.
Our approach
A diversity steering group ensures that diversity and equality are considered in relation to recruitment, team structure, training, management and communications. All recruiting managers in the business participate in interview and selection training – explaining the legislative and company policy issues around diversity and equality – and they are supported by a competency-based recruitment process which minimises the risk of direct or indirect discrimination occurring.
Job vacancies are advertised on the Diversity Group, Equality Britain and JobCentre Plus websites, which are geared towards ethnic minorities, disabled people, women, the unemployed and disadvantaged groups. The Group’s ‘Talent through Diversity’ statement is placed on all recruitment advertisements.

Our performance
Mouchel employs 8,645 people (July 31, 2011) of whom 41 per cent are female, (29 per cent 2010).
During the same period the proportion of employees from black and ethnic minority groups fell to 10 per cent (12 per cent in 2010), reflecting changes in our contracts and work profile. The Group is confident that this reduction does not indicate any failures within its recruitment processes.
