Surface water management planning
We offer a holistic approach to surface water flood risk management, aimed at achieving best value for money for the client and their constituents.
Our team are able to offer a bespoke approach for each client, to best meet their specific needs. On the whole we tend to adopt the following steps in the process:
Make the case for action - quick overview to assess flood risk and opportunities for funding
Establish Partnerships - bringing in other local authorities, sewerage undertaker, IDBs and Environment Agency
Collate information - including piped drainage systems, SUDS, watercourses, overland flood paths, culverts and floodable areas.
Select approach - the level of detail of subsequent assessments needs to be agreed and is generally based on a cost benefit analysis
Understand risk -using various modelling tools for fluvial, pluvial and groundwater flooding, as well as our own in-house Flood Risk Mapper software which can be used for rapid assessment of flood risk from multiple sources.
Communicate risk - completed through the use of flood maps
Identifying and assessing options - options may include gully cleaning, pipe jetting, culvert maintenance and watercourse clearance, as well as capital schemes.
Implement - asset maintenance, capital works and contingency planning
Review - the SWMP should be a live document and be regularly updated as new data arises
