Rail signalling and telecommunications design
We provide design and installation of railway signalling and telecommunications systems on Network Rail and London Underground infrastructure. Signalling systems comprise equipment such as track circuits, axle counters, interlockings, train control and warning systems. The systems include the signals themselves, as well as their associated cabling and power supply systems.
Modern signalling systems enable increased network capacity (increased frequency of trains, longer trains) and reliability, require fewer staff to operate them, and incorporate improved levels of automatic train control, providing an increased level of safety.
Both installation and design are safety critical activities and must generally be carried out by staff licensed under the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) scheme.
Installation activities are generally undertaken within railway possessions and are heavily constrained by restrictions on access and available time.
Mouchel is able to provide the full range of services across the spectrum of signalling installation and design, and particularly for the civil engineering aspects of main line signalling schemes is able to provide a fully integrated service for design and installation.
Mouchel is one of the relatively few companies in the UK to maintain an Assessing Agency under the IRSE scheme. This enables us to undertake license assessment and re-assessment for many license categories in house.
