Free schools
Education Secretary Michael Gove envisages the introduction of Free Schools as Academies, with the same freedoms, flexibilities and legal requirements. They are part of his campaign to combat low standards and inadequate provision, particularly in disadvantaged areas. The main difference (not entirely clear-cut) from Academies is that Free Schools are meant to be new institutions, meeting parental demand or providing some specific alternative provision. The idea is that they are to be set up ‘in response to parental demand’, differentiating them from existing Academies, all of which benefit from sponsorship of some kind.
The Government has also invited independent, fee-paying schools to convert to independent state schools (Academies) under the ‘Free School’ banner.
Mouchel is ready to help those wishing to set up Free Schools through the entire process, including making the first contact with the Department for Education, putting together a proposal with evidence of demand, producing a business case, outlining curriculum details, organisation, finances, buildings/site etc to opening. It can be a tricky business, but our project managers and education specialists can see you safely through.
