People profile

Simon graduated from Liverpool University with a MEng (Hons) in Civil & Environmental Engineering in 2005.  He joined Mouchel in September 2006 and works in the Flooding & Environmental Management division (F&EM).

Since joining Mouchel Simon has been involved in a variety of flooding related projects which have given him the necessary skills and experience to progress in his career; shown by his recent promotion to Assistant Engineer level.  He has a training agreement with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and is aiming to be chartered by the end of 2010.

“The thing I enjoy most about working in the water sector and in flooding in particular is that the benefits of the schemes I’m involved with on people and communities are really tangible. Small things can make a big difference.  I’ve had to deal with many challenges since joining Mouchel, life in the real world of work is very different from school and university, but through this there have been plenty of opportunities for me to develop both professionally and personally.

I’ve had plenty of support with my professional development from my Delegated and Supervising Civil Engineers on the ICE training programme and also from my team leader and other colleagues around me which has really set me on the right track. But I’m also of the opinion that you need to take ownership of your professional and personal development and be proactive in seeking out and taking advantage of all the available opportunities.”
