Dubai: can do culture
It’s difficult to describe projects in Dubai without the use of superlatives. The sheer scale and pace of development is breathtaking and the imagination and ingenuity shown as each new scheme seeks to eclipse its predecessors is awesome.
Mouchel’s team in the Gulf provides services on schemes including Dubai Festival City, Jumeirah Village South – a 580ha development which accommodates a population of 250,000 – and the Jumeirah Beach coastline management scheme, involving the creation of a 36km-long beach resort.
Eclipsing all these schemes is Nakheel’s Dubai Waterfront project, where Mouchel’s role extends to design and project management on this 14,000ha site and programme management of one of the world’s tallest structures.
Dubai Waterfront will be the largest waterfront development in the world, becoming home to over a million residents. The first two phases alone involve construction – across a 4,000ha section of the site – of 3,250 affordable homes and three to four thousand low-rise homes designed to reflect the traditional architecture of the region.
Phase 1 also includes a mix of hotels and retail development and here our task is first to create the basic development infrastructure.
Mouchel’s interest lies in creating ‘communities’ amidst the soaring skylines; our team is driven by the will to become the architects of a twenty-first century lifestyle experience in this city of the mega-project, where development is limited only by the imagination of its creators.
