The Area 1 network is over 320 km long, covers the A30 and A38 in Devon and Cornwall, and includes the A38 Saltash Tunnel - the only two-way, three-lane (tidal flow) tunnel on the Agency’s road network.
We provide the Highways Agency with single-point responsibility for the integrated maintenance, operation and improvement of the network and are responsible for all maintenance, delivery of schemes up to £500,000 and the design and management of improvement schemes up to £5 million. This includes day-to-day network management, investment planning and budgeting, programming and the provision of strategic advice to the Highways Agency.
