FAQs
What kind of person does Mouchel look for?
Throughout the recruitment process, we’ll be looking for a number of things: good business awareness, a flair for generating and communicating ideas, and the ability to work well as part of a team to deliver results. We’re also interested in hiring graduates who can think around a problem and have the drive and ambition to make an impact on the business. We recruit people from all disciplines but some roles do have specific requirements.
What sort of work will I be doing?
Our engineering graduates undertake a range of roles: from hands-on, purely technical positions, to those that focus more on project management. Here, you’ll use your technical knowledge to liaise with both clients and contractors and ensure the project gets delivered, on time and on-budget.
Our non-engineering graduates will take on roles within management consulting, project management or business support roles. These roles will suit those who are more commercially-minded.
What are your entry requirements?
To join us, you’ll need at least a 2:2 degree in a relevant subject (or a 2:1 if you’re applying for our Management Consulting Business or Government Business Services).
What vacancies are available at which location?
As a UK-wide employer, our vacancies span the country. Our opportunities are listed against specific locations, however, the more flexible you are in terms of location, the easier it will be for you to find a suitable role. For Management Consulting and Business Services Roles, graduates should expect to work from client offices and other regional Mouchel offices which are located accross the UK.
How long will it take to complete the online application?
Approximately 20 minutes. Even if you don’t complete the form in one session, you may revisit specific sections using the login and password we provide.
What does the assessment process consist of?
If your online application is successful, you will be asked to take an online test, then invited to attend a telephone interview followed by a face-to-face interview and assessment centre.
If my application is rejected, may I reapply?
If your application is rejected from our recruitment process, we ask that you wait twelve months until you apply again. Duplicate applications to more than one Academy vacancy are not permitted and will be withdrawn from the system.
Will you pay for my travel to the assessment centre?
Yes, we will pay reasonable travel expenses for you to attend an assessment centre. All costs will need to be pre-approved by us before you book, must be for travel within the UK only and using the most effective means possible. Please keep a copy of all your receipts and bring to assessment centre
What is your position on work permits?
If you are not an EEA citizen and we wish to employ you, we will attempt to apply for a work permit on your behalf. This is, however, ultimately a UK Home Office and UK Borders Agency decision and we cannot guarantee success. Please visit www.workingintheuk.gov.uk for more information. If you are already in possession of a work permit/visa for the UK, please indicate the type and duration of your permission to work in the UK on your application form.
Does Mouchel offer relocation assistance?
We do not offer financial assistance, although your line manager or HR contact will be happy to help you with the process of finding accommodation.
Can I start immediately?
If you are available to start earlier – and your Line Manager requires this – you may start immediately. However, please note the Academy programme itself begins in October 2010. Early start dates are not available in Management Consulting.
Can I apply for an internship?
We have a variety of paid summer and industrial internships which are advertised on our main website under the careers section. You will need to submit an online application in order to be considered for these positions, which are usually advertised from January on-wards.
What support will I receive?
Throughout the programme and beyond, you will have access to a number of support mechanisms to help you forge ahead within Mouchel. These include your line managers, mentors, peers and work colleagues – but also our self-learning e-resources and local learning forums. The Academy development team will also be there to help. All Graduates will benefit from a local buddy to help them with the transition into full-time paid work.
How much holiday will I get?
You will be entitled to 24 days’ holiday a year – plus bank holidays. On top of this, you can also choose buy up to five extra days’ holiday through our flexible benefits scheme.
How many hours will I be expected to work?
Depending on the nature of your role, you will be contracted to work either 37.5 or 40 hours per week. However, we do ask for flexibility. We’re a business that’s expected to deliver results and sometimes that will mean pitching in with the rest of the team and working extra hours.
What about career progression?
Most people choose to progress within their own business function. However it’s also possible to move across our business into a different field: indeed, the sheer breadth of our organisation – and its opportunities – is one of our major strong points. For exceptional candidates, there is also the possibility of moving abroad and working on one of our international projects.
