DownerMouchel scoops excellence award

DownerMouchel, the joint venture (JV) between Australia-based contractor Downer and infrastructure and business services group Mouchel, received recognition in Sydney in November at the prestigious 2011 Australian Business Excellence Awards. 

The award for customer and market focus followed the JV’s 100 per cent bid success rate in securing three Western Australian Integrated Service Arrangements (ISAs). DownerMouchel’s key client, Main Roads Western Australia, also achieved a silver award for business excellence.

Accepting the award, DownerMouchel’s General Manager Stuart Torpy, said, ‘This is the culmination of a four-year journey for us. Our people have done a superb job in creating a culture of customer focus and then providing outstanding service delivery.’

DownerMouchel was formed in 2008 to tender, win and deliver road and asset management and maintenance services under the Main Roads Western Australia ISAs. It is the only provider to have been awarded more than one ISA.

Each ISA is let for an initial term of five years and is extendable based on performance (measured through the Australian Business Excellence Framework). DownerMouchel’s approach is based on enquiring, listening attentively and being committed to working with customers to ensure the JV’s long-term success.

The organisation’s structure, business processes and performance frameworks have been designed to support successful customer outcomes and to promote a high level of confidence in the JV’s ability to deliver.

DownerMouchel has grown to around 160 people, working as part of Main Road’s integrated teams in 10 depot and office locations from Metropolitan Perth to Kununurra in the tropical Kimberley region.
